The various rounds of the Primary Colors competition are structured according to the general cognitive development among children. There will be three rounds for each category, namely, Written, Oral and Activity Round.
Written Rounds are activity worksheets to introduce the child to academic learning by practising Letter and Word awareness, Phonemic awareness, Math and number awareness. As children will be using writing materials in this round, their essential fine motor skills will develop.
Oral rounds are slide shows that stimulate visual communication and auditory learning. Children will have to think on the spot to answer the questions regarding the slides, thus contributing to a healthy brain development.
During the Activity round, children will have to complete tasks that stimulate fine and gross motor skills as well as their creativity. This interesting round interact with other children in a new environment
NURSERY
1. Trace the lines
During this activity children will have to trace vertical, horizontal, diagonal and curved lines.
Tracing lines is an important step in writing readiness and fine motorskill development.
2. Colour the picture
The child will be given a picture that will have to be coloured in to the best of their ability.
3. Match the picture
The child has to match the identical pictures with each other by drawing a line
1. Identify the letters
During this oral round, children will be shown 5 slides with a different lower case letters on each slide.
The child will have to name the letter that is shown on the slide.
2. Identify the number
During this round the child will have to name the number shown to them.
1. Identify the colours
During this oral round, children will be shown 5 slides with a different colors on each slide.
The child will have to identify the color that is shown on the slide.
KG1
1. Write the missing letters
This is a handwriting practice worksheet for children.
During this round, children will have to write the missing letter to complete the word.
2. Letter maze
Mazes are fun ways for children to practice the important fine motor skill of manipulating a pencil.
3. Colour the pictures
The child will be given a picture that will have to be coloured in to the best of their ability.
1. Identify the colour and name the picture
The child will be shown 5 different slides, with various pictures in different colours.
Not only should the child name the object, but also name the colour of the object in the slide.
2. Describe the cartoon
In this activity the child will have to look at the picture and say what they see in the picture. They can talk about the colours, the shapes the emotions or the characters.
1. Name 5 objects from the basket
During this activity children will be given a basket filled with various objects.
The child should name 5 objects from the basket, without any help from the facilitator.
2. Shape Sorting
The child will have to place the shapes in the correct baskets. The child must name 5 objects from the basket.
KG2
1. Circle the beginning sound
During this round, the child will be given a worksheet with various pictures on it.
Each picture will have 3 letters written below it.
The child will have to circle the correct beginning sound of each picture.
2. Unscramble the letters
During this activity the child has to unscramble the letters to write the correct word.
3. Colour the picture
The child will be given a picture that will have to be coloured in to the best of their ability.
1. Questions and answers
During this round, children will be shown a picture slide.
The child will have to answer 5 random questions considering the slide.
2. Where is the item? Prepositions
During this activity the child has to say where the object is. Preposition games are designed for children to teach them about prepositions and help them improve their grammar skills.
1. Name the objects
During this activity the child will be given a box with various items in it.
The child will them have to name five object correctly from the box without the assistance from the facilitator.
2. Sensory Box
Children are wired to receive and utilize sensory input from day one
During this activity the child has to sort the textures from each other. For example: Hard and soft.
Grade 1
1. Word search
The child will be given a picture that they will have to colour to the best of their ability.
2. Colour the pictures
The child will be given a picture that will have to be coloured in to the best of their ability.
3. Identify the correct spelling
The child has to identify the correct spelling from a set of words.
1. Rhyming words
During this round children will be shown 5 picture slidesslides. The child will have to give a word that rhymes with that picture.
2. Identify the picture and spell it
During this activity the child will be shown a picture. The child then has to name the picture and spell it.
1. Clay molding
During this activity round, the child will be given some clay. The child will have to make a clay model and describe their creation.
